Horrifying Things on the Horizon:
Haunted Calgary’s Halloween Tradition of 25+ Years Continues in a New Home at New Horizon Mall
Calgary, Alberta, October 7, 2019— Haunted Calgary has been frightening guests for over 25 years. Formerly located in Rocky Ridge, where it was one of Calgary’s largest walk-through yard haunts, the event was a Halloween favourite for thousands. This year, Haunted Calgary has a new home and their sights set on the most terrifying year yet!
On October 11, Haunted Calgary opens at New Horizon Mall in Balzac, near CrossIron Mills. The attraction, located in the mall’s heated underground parkade is Haunted Calgary’s largest endeavor ever.
Featuring three terrifying attractions, plus a family-friendly attraction and special events, Haunted Calgary has something for everyone.
Cesspool — A wanton descent into the dark underbelly of society. Find out why you’re afraid of the dark. Get consumed by filth and wickedness.
Sanitorium — Wander among the plagues, the boils, the pus, and the depraved.
Deep Sleep Hotel — Step right in. Ring the bell for service. Those who check in to the Deep Sleep Hotel never check out. You’ll sleep deep… 6’ deep!
Family Frights Thrill Zone — The attraction for all ages! Enjoy bouncy castles, wicked witches, mini-putt, and more.
The attractions are open Fridays and Saturdays from October 11 to November 2, plus Halloween night.
On November 1, the lights go out for Glowstick Night and November 2 will see a zombie Nerf battle for ages 7+ at Heck Night and a zombie survival game at Hell Night.
Haunted Calgary operates as a social enterprise
Haunted Calgary’s seasoned volunteers offer up a variety of skills including construction, design, theatre, set design, costuming, special-effects makeup, administration, marketing, customer service, and much more. “We’re piloting a really innovative social enterprise model where volunteers donate their time and at the end of the season, a percentage of profits will be donated to the charitable partner of the volunteer’s choice” explained Christine Campbell, Creative Director. This year, Haunted Calgary has partnered with ten charitable partners including Calgary Alpha House Society, ARTS Senior Animal Rescue, Workshop Theatre, Calgary Animal Rescue Society, Calgary Food Bank, Alberta Spay and Neuter Task Force, Haunters Against Hate, Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, Parachutes for Pets, and Pause4Change. Those interested in volunteering can visit www.hauntedcalgary.org for more information.
Guests rave about Haunted Calgary: “I was scared from start to finish. I've never screamed so much in my life. Witty, bloody, and creepy all in one. Great job!”
Tickets are $25 for general admission, which gets you access to all four attractions. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Visit www.hauntedcalgary.org for more information, group discounts, and other ticket options like fast passes and Hell Night.
